HPN Complications

If you have any problems related to you HPN, call the BC HPN Program’s nurse or dietitian. If it is an emergency, go directly to the nearest emergency room.

The Oley Foundation website provides a helpful HPN Complication Chart that contains information on:

• Infection
• Hyperglycemia
• Hypoglycemia
• Dehydration
• Air embolism
• Blood in catheter
• Cracking of hub
• Catheter tear
• Catheter clot
• Inflammation of vein in PICC users
• Pump or power failure
